David Bass
Founder and CEO
I founded Decision Tree Advisor in 2022 after spending nearly 25 years in the investment management industry. The firm was born out of the idea that everyone deserves an opportunity for financial success, not just large institutions or the uber wealthy. I believe every person can take steps to build wealth in whatever form they define.
My Story
Prior to Decision Tree Advisor, I was a Senior Equity Trader at Invesco. Invesco is a global asset manager with assets totaling $1.4T and is most notably known as the manager of the Triple Qs (QQQ). At Invesco, my primary area of focus was trading technology and healthcare equities. I also co-developed several trading tools that improved portfolio manager returns and developed an electronic trading tool performance monitor. Before Invesco, I also performed similar investment management functions at AIM Capital Management (now Invesco), USAA Investment Management and the Retirement Systems of Alabama.
I graduated with a BS in Commerce and Business Administration from The University of Alabama and an MBA from Auburn University at Montgomery. I have also completed the financial planning certification education program through The American College of Financial Services and earned the Chartered Financial Consultant ® designation.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my amazing wife April and our five children. I also have a debatably unhealthy passion for golf and Alabama football.
My Why?
After spending many years in the investment management industry and a short stent at a large regional brokerage firm, I came to the realization that most anybody can take steps to build a solid personal financial foundation. You do not have to be a pension fund, insurance company or part of the ruling elite to attain financial security and freedom. The recent pandemic further solidified my beliefs that anybody can do this, as our family was able to avoid all sorts of financial stress based on our own financial plan.
I want to share my experience!
Behind The Name
Any parent will tell you, raising children is not without its challenges. After a very challenging period with one of our teenagers, we talked about making good decisions in their life. That life was full of successive decisions that were either good or bad. The various combinations of good and bad decisions eventually led to how your life turned out. I illustrated this to our child in a simple decision tree. The goal was to end up at the top right with a life full of opportunities, fulfillment and a lack of complication.
